I made a thread previously that never got resolved, so I figured I'd try again. Basically I was playing PUBG the other day and all of a sudden a ton of white flickering pixels appeared on my screen. Tabbed out to see if it was just an issue with the game, realized it wasn't.
Here's what I know / theorize:
-It seems to affect all programs, under any load (even on the windows login screen, I can see the artifacting there)
-The affected pixels are static when the contents of the monitor are static, but if there's a video or gif on the page the pixels will flicker and move all over the place
-Thousands of pixels are affected at a time
-The colours of the affected pixels seems to depend on the colours of the correct pixels, and possibly the artifacting is just the pixels loading in the incorrect places (this is just a rough guess based off these images: https://imgur.com/a/C5Kr1 )
-Some of the artifacting does appear in screenshots, though some does not (pics for reference; both pics are of the same still, first one is my phone camera, 2nd is a screenshot with prnt scrn + paint) https://imgur.com/a/aED0H
-When the problem first occurred my in game framerate wasn't affected at all by the artifacting, so the GPU still seems to function somewhat properly, even under load
What I've tried:
-First step I took was uninstalling the graphics driver, that immediately fixed the problem. Reinstalling the driver returned the problem, and the problem was still present when I tried downgrading to older driver versions
-Reseated the gpu and monitor cable, reseated and booted with each RAM stick individually, problem still occurred in all situations
-Swapped in my older graphics card (Radeon 6870) , problem is not present, no artifacting to be seen whatsoever
Based off all of this my best guess is that it is an issue with the card itself, after doing some research I found pictures of similar artifacting that said it was caused by bad VRAM, however in the other thread I posted someone suggested the artifacting showing up in screenshots suggested it might be due to a software issue, so I just wanted to see if anyone had any ideas.
Also, assuming it is a hardware issue, are there any options I could take before having to straight up replace it? Would it be possible for someone to repair at a cheap enough price that warrants keeping it, even though it's already 2-3 years old?
