Hi, I don't know if this has been asked before or if it's an entirely unique problem to me, but me and my friend have tried absolutely everything we can think of and nothing has worked.
So, recently I left my computer at a PC repair shop and I got it back this morning. When I set it up, however, the audio wouldn't work. This has happened before after I disconnected my PC and it's usually gone back to normal on its own in half an hour or so, but this time it hasn't. I use headphones in the rear line out jack (or line in, if I got that wrong. It's the green one, in any case) since the front headphone jack in my PC is broken (and, for the record, this problem persists with different headphones). The playback device I use is the Speakers (High Definition Audio Device) one, but the sound is displayed as coming out of the Digital Audio (S/PDIF) (High Definition Audio Device) one. I've disabled those and set the Speakers (HDAD) one to default but there's no sound at all. Whenever I try to use the sound test function, it simply pops up saying "Failed to play test tone". My friend reckons it's an issue with the drivers, so I tried to search for driver updates but none were available. When that failed, I tried uninstalling the driver then restarting the PC to hopefully make Windows reinstall it but that didn't work either (the device/driver is listed again, but no difference has been made). To recap, we have tried:
- Disabling the playback devices we didn't want and setting the one we did to default.
- Updating the drivers, which were apparently at the best version.
- Uninstalling then reinstalling the drivers.
- Using a different pair of headphones.
I have no idea what to do now, but I hope that someone here could provide me with some help. Any comments at all are greatly appreciated. If you need more info, just ask. Thanks.
