I've had 16GB in my desktop (2 x 8GB kingston valueRAM - 1600Mhz - CL11) for a while and recently got another identical stick and figured I'd just put it into my desktop.
My BIOS says I have 3 x 8GB but only 16GB usable and both Windows and Linux sees 16GB (CPU-Z sees the third stick though).
I've tried all the solutions I found online so far and nothing works. I've tested each stick on its own, I've tested all possible pairs of two and I've tried swapping them around testing different DIMM slots.
I have 4 DIMM slots, A1 B1 A2 B2. My motherboard recommends using B1, B1 + B2 or (B1 + B2) + (A1 + A2), depending on the number of RAM sticks.
If I install two sticks to B1 + B2 I get 16GB
B1 + A2 also gives me 16GB
B1 + A1 gives me 8GB
A2 + B2 gives me 8GB
Any combination of 3 sticks gives me 16GB
Based on solutions online I've tried resetting CMOS both by removing the battery and by shorting the headers, overclocking a tiny bit, downclocking a tiny bit, changing CAS latency, disabling the unused DIMM slot, and probably more stuff I've forgotten.
When I reset CMOS I get a page saying 24GB of RAM, but when I enter BIOS it's the same result.
I've included pictures of the BIOS to show that all sticks are detected but not usable. Picture 1, Picture 2
