Recently installed windows 10 on my external hard drive to boot to through usb3.0. I have an internal hdd with windows 10 on it as well, but I want to keep work separate from these hdd's. I expected to have to provide a license key after installation, but was never asked. After finishing set up, I see windows says it has a genuine version installed. I downloaded the free windows 10 image from the Microsoft website. Initially windows 10 was in S mode, but I converted it to pro mode without any problems. However, I cannot install any files as it says windows defender is blocking the install and to speak with my system Admin. I thought that windows may have been picking up the license from my internal hdd, but the numbers don't match. I deactivate the sata drives in bios, but it had no affect. I was thinking I might purchase a license and change the key to see if that eliminates the windows defender block. Anyone have any advice/explanation of what's happening? Thanks
