Virtual machine disk latency (wide machines perform poorly)

News Saleb-,Newspapers are usually issued daily or weekly. Virtual machine disk latency (wide machines perform poorly), Magazine News weekly, but they also had a magazine format. Newspapers with common interests usually publish news articles and articles about national and international news as well as local news. These include news events and personalities of the political, business and finance, crime, weather, and natural hazards; health and medicine, science, and computers and technology; Sports; and entertainment, community, food and cuisine, apparel and home fashion, and the arts.

Virtual machine disk latency (wide machines perform poorly)-News of the United States was founded in 1933 by David Lawrence (1888-1973), which also started the World Report in 1946. The two magazines are covering national and international news separately, but Lawrence combines them into news reports of U.S. in World and 1948 [1] and Later sold the magazine to its employees. Historically, this magazine tends to be a bit more conservative than the two main competitors, Time and Newsweek, and focus more on the story of economic, health, and education. It's also distancing news, entertainment and sports celebrities. [2] an important milestone in the history of the beginning of the magazine is including the introduction of the "Washington Whispers" column in 1934 and the column "News You Can Use" in 1952. [3] [4] in 1958, the circulation of the weekly magazine passed one million and two million in 1973. (wikipedia) Virtual machine disk latency (wide machines perform poorly)

I posted a question a few days ago, then deleted it when someone put me on a track to research.

Under VMware, VMware advises to make machines as wide as possible (e.g. many sockets, single core). I have confirmed the behavior below on my home computer (VMworkstation, two SSDs in RAID0) as well as two enterprise servers (RAID 10). I suspect it has something to do with NUMA and/or splitting the workload across multiple CPUs. (?)

Can someone explain, in a technical fashion, the results below? Also, what is the "rule-of-thumb" for right-sizing virtual machines, as these results show disk latency is affected by making them as wide as possible? Do you set cores equal to the number of NUMA nodes (or pCPUs) you have?

Latency is in the last column.

A 12-core machine with 6 sockets and two cores per socket:

  • 6x2x12-R710 E:\DiskSpd1.dat 8192 0 Random 29.384
  • 6x2x12-R710 E:\DiskSpd1.dat 8192 0 Sequential 5.013
  • 6x2x12-R710 E:\DiskSpd1.dat 8192 100 Random 57.874

  • 6x2x12-R710 E:\DiskSpd1.dat 65536 100 Sequential 15.460

A 12-core machine with 12 sockets, one core per socket:

  • 12x1x12-R710 E:\DiskSpd1.dat 8192 0 Random 141.832
  • 12x1x12-R710 E:\DiskSpd1.dat 8192 0 Sequential 22.906

  • 12x1x12-R710 E:\DiskSpd1.dat 65536 0 Sequential 110.069
  • 12x1x12-R710 E:\DiskSpd1.dat 65536 100 Sequential 60.964

Any input would be greatly appreciated!
