Brief history: last night was gaming pretty heavily and computer randomly shut off mid game; temps were fine but I tried to start it... No dice. Figured I'd go to bed and try in the morning.

Same no start, no lights, nothing this morning.

I did a paperclip test on the PSU and it passed, but I decided to replace it anyways as nothing was working. I tried shorting the on off switch but nothing spun up, no fans, nothing.

New PSU goes in, nothing still. Test the start switch with a jumper and nothing spins up. Call ASUS support who decide to RMA it, as it's only 4-5 months old.

I went and got another Motherboard, and a new case (needed one anyways, also to rule out power switch). Plugged everything in but now the PC instantly powers off after half a second. Fans spin, lights come on, then it shuts off. I've removed all peripherals so the only things plugged in are 8pin and 24pin to mobo., And CPU fan.

Now where it gets weird is if I remove my heatsink and CPU, then start it with no fan or CPU, everything works flawlessly, except of course the whole not having a couple thing. Lights spin up, drives spin etc. As soon as the cpu goes back in, instant shutdown on power up.

I'm assuming this is a bad CPU at this point?

Build: i5 7600k, msi 1080, 16 gb Corsair rgb ram (2x8), old Mobo was Asus z270 mark 2, new mobo is msi z370a pro
