So, a few days ago, I went to browse r/Fortnite and got a rather intrusive Popup ad on Chrome, on my S7. First time I've ever seen this while using reddit. It was so bad that no matter what I tried, I couldn't get the bastard to go away. It kept yelling a mixture of Spanish, english, and either nonsense or another language I didn't recognize, and had nothing to do with the text portion of the popup.
-closed all tabs -force closed Chrome -restarted phone -cleared browser history and cached data
It was still there, every time I tried to open chrome. So I got clever, opened chrome and managed to open a new tab, and subsequently was able to close the "infected tab".
Ever since this weird thing, whenever using Chrome to post or reply on Reddit, the reply box area is suffering from severe input lag. Only the reply box. I'm not having this issue in any other field on Reddit, or any other website for that matter. I've had to download Samsung Internet Browser just to not have to take minutes of time to try and type small sentences, because I'm having to wait for it to catch up to itself.
I'm not super tech-savvy but I know a few things. I used the Verizon security app to scan and clean, turned up nothing. Yeah, it's McAfee based, so I assume it's shit. I also used Malwarebytes to do a secondary, and still nothing. I've looked through all of my files as extensively as possible and haven't found anything out of place.
So, what the hell? It's like Reddit murdered it's own reply box with this spam ad, but only through chrome.
I have not had this issue prior to the popup incident, and no other weird things have presented themselves as of yet.
Reddit works perfectly fine using Samsung Internet, so I'm currently using that as my default.
