Okay so a few days ago my sisters facebook supposedly got hacked out of nowhere. I personally don't believe this, as she's the type of person to click on every suspicious link in sight. But anyway, it was the usual sharing these scams etc. on her facebook.
A few of her friends reported it as a scam as Facebook removed it as far as I know. She then got an email from facebook saying she had to reset her password.
They then called facebook helpline or whatever and spoke to this guy.
The guy then accessed a computer they were using (one at work not the one used at home). He said that our (my) home IP has been hacked by someone in Nigeria and that he managed to access the Facebook through one of our home computers (sister logged into facebook on there recently). Supposedly this Nigerian hackerman has hacked our home computer and that's how he got onto her facebook.
Now I wasn't present when any of this happened, I just got a phone call from my mom asking for help because they didn't know what any of it means.
I'm by no means an expert of any sort in this area, but I guess I know the basics.
I'm a bit confused on the idea that this guy has (supposedly) hacked our IP? How would this happen? Can he even hack our IP? I guess he could know our IP but hack it?
The guy from Facebook also said that this hackerman has tried to hack us or whatever 8000times? Don't really understand how the guy from facebook can know all this all from accessing a completely separate computer?
Apparently, he then started saying we need to buy x software and pay y amount every month as this is the one way to be safe.
Seems like the guy they rang was trying to scam them or whatever. Asked what number they rang and gave it a quick google search and nothing related to the facebook support team came up. It just seems like some dodgy number.
They then let this man access a computer at work via a program and so he had control.
Don't know why they'd let him do that? Why would he need to access that computer when it's completley unrelated to our home computer which is suppoesdly where the problem is?
Moreover how does this guy know that our home computer has been hacked x amount of times by a person in nigera all from accessing a random computer?
It's really not adding up for me.
Bit annoying, i've got thing to be doing and now I've been told try deal with this.
Any advice on what to do. I'm gonna double check the number they called and see if it's legit or not, but by the looks of things it's not.
Do I have anything to worry about. I use a different computer, and that home computer isn't used much. My parents might check their emails on it etc but thats about it.
Also this 'facebook' support guy said not to access anything private on the home computer because it's been hacked?
Don't really know what to do here if i'm honest. All sounds like a scam to me to be honest. Do you think my IP has actually been hacked? Is there anyway to check this and do anything if it has?
Anyway to check if the home computer has been hacked? Supose it has, can they access other things on our network (eg. other devices on same network).
Sorry for the long post, just tried to give as much information as possible so this can be respoved ASAP.
Thanks in advance!
