So, today was pretty unusual. I was gaming in my computer when, after it started raining and thundering, my computer turned off. When I turned it back on, it would get stuck on the BIOS, where it said that "a power surge was detected during the last attempt to boot, and as such the motherboard has prevented it from doing so to not damage any components". When looking into the BIOS temperature readings, it says that the 5V units' voltage is fluctuating between 4V and 6V. At this point i'm thinking that it may be an issue related to my power supply.
Then, I decide to open up my case and tinker around with the components, to confirm if it is actually the PSU that is having an issue or something else possibly. I disconnect all components from the supply but the motherboard and the video card (otherwise i'd be unable to see anything), and it turns out that my motherboard (ASUS P8H61-M LX3 R2.0) is one of those who won't run without any RAM installed, and starts beeping incesantly as I tried to turn it on.
But then, after I inserted the RAM back into the slot, when the computer is turned on, it won't output anything on the monitor at all, or beep the POST sound meaning that it has managed to turn on successfuly. So I guess that I managed to create a whole new issue while trying to investigate another one (my bad, I guess).
Now, the question I want to ask you guys is: is this a RAM or motherboard related issue? All other components seem to work just fine with the RAM inserted, and if I take it off the motherboard starts beeping informing me that the RAM is not present. Whichever answer it may be, what would be the next step I should take to get this sorted?
