I don't own any sound card, just using the onboard audio.
My mic has consistently been too quiet on this computer, so silent that it doesn't register a sound unless you tap on the mic or move it around. I can't even tell if its actually receiving sound, because it ONLY notices me tapping on it, not blowing in it or talking in it. I can tell all of this because I can turn on and off playback and see that I only hear the tapping sounds if its on (ie the microphone is picking up me tapping on it, but not me speaking into it)
Here are the steps I've tried to fix it:
- I've tried two different microphones, both inputted into the pink microphone jack - neither works on this computer, but work fine and very loud on my laptop.
- There is a small controller on both mics: both are turned up all the way and not muted.
- In Control Panel -> Sound -> Recording -> Microphone -> Levels, the microphone and microphone boost are always at max and never muted.
- I've unplugged the front panel of the computer from where it is connected to the motherboard. Before it never registered any signal at all from a mic plugged in there, so it's not as if I used it.
- I've reinstalled Realtek drivers probably a dozen times, all the while doing the above steps. I used the ones from the Realtek website as well as the ones from ASRock's download page, and didn't notice any difference.
- I don't really see any settings that are actually different from the above when I open up Realtek HD Audio Manager (which by the way, seems to be very hard to find on this computer. On my laptop its right in the system tray, but here I had to go to C:\Program Files\Realtek\Audio\HDA\RtkNGUI64.exe)
Any help would be greatly appreciated. If you need me to list any other specs just ask.
