Sorry I see this problem posted every now and then on this subreddit but I haven’t been able to resolve my issue.
My laptop was working fine the morning before I left for work a few days ago but after returning home I couldn’t get online and I’ve been trying numerous fixes over the past few days but nothing works...
My laptop can connect to the WiFi which I know is working because my phone can connect to the internet through it. However it always says no internet connection and the diagnosis from the windows diagnostic program is DNS not responding.
Of course I tried to power cycle the modem and router but it didn’t change anything. I take it that because the phone can use the WiFi that it’s an issue with the laptop specifically?
This isn’t only a problem with the WiFi as I tried to plug in the Ethernet cord to my laptop and even though it was recognized and connected, I still couldn’t get onto the internet.
I tried to set the DNS on the IPv4 setting to the google 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 but that didn’t work.
I tried all the command prompts like the refreshdns, release/renew, registerdns, netsh int ip reset c:\resetlog.txt, netsh winsock reset, etc.
Everything is set to obtain automatically (IPv6 address, DNS server address, IP address).
Under “services”, DHCP client and DNS client appear to be running.
I tried both Firefox and google chrome but it didn’t make a difference.
I tried to disable firewalls and antivirus but that didn’t help either.
I don’t have another laptop that I can try downloading new drivers with. Not even sure what drivers I’d have to download/update...
Does anyone have any idea what could be the problem? So sorry for such a long winded post but I’ve tried a bunch of things already and was hoping to save some of your time by listing them. Thank you so much in advance for any advice!

PS: is it just me or are most of the sites that say “solved” just seem like ads for driver updating software? Also, there doesn’t seem to be a solid reputable place to find reliable help (besides here that is)
