Description of problem
I just got done spending the last five hours on Skype with a friend building my first PC. It was really exciting and nerve racking at the same time! Everything went smooth even when I thought I had done something wrong. As far as the PC itself everything is golden, or it seems.
The issue comes to my headset. I have a Corsair wired headset with built in microphone. I bought it a couple years ago, but I'm pretty sure it's the Void Pro Surround. It works with my phone and my six-year old laptop just fine. I went to the top of my case to plug the microphone and audio cables in, and it just doesn't seem to recognize the audio cable, or both, and I can't really tell why. When I plug the cables in, I get a pop-up screen from Gigabyte, and it asks me what kind of cable I just plugged in. When I put in the audio cable (red) I choose "Headphone". It defaults to Stereo, and when I hit the play button to test the sound, it highlights the speakers that should be making noise so I can make a difference of different audio, but it's silent on both test speakers. I remember a similar issue happening about a year ago when I was dealing with a pre-built that I had bought, but I had it returned and I can't remember how we fixed my issue.
I can't think of anything else to add, but please feel free to ask any questions you might have. I would have asked my computer-guru friend that helped me build this, but he's a timezone ahead and had to go to sleep. Thanks in advance!

Build a new PC with a Gigabyte Z370P DS motherboard and plug in Corsair Void Pro Surround headphones.
What I've tried so far to resolve the issue
I tried updating the Realtek High Definition Audio drivers through the Device Manager, but it said I had the latest drivers.
