I payed my brother to buy me a samsung s6 about 2 weeks ago which he bought from ebay. I dont have a lot of money but i needed a phone. Its a refurbished phone, so i didnt pay a lot of money.
So about 5 days ago i noticed its been rooted. When using the browser i clicked something and it came up with the message something along the lines of "this phone has been rooted, this feature is not available for your security". I didnt realise it, but that was red flag number one.
Two days ago I signed into messenger, but i used an old password (I change passwords often) with the same email, and it created a new account. Now, i don't know if these is a known problem, or if this was the phones fault. I tried googling this, but it seemed like no one else has had this problem. This leads me to believe something phishy is going on with this new phone. Red flag number 2.
Just a couple hours ago when I woke up, I checked my emails and I had one from Facebook; someone had attempted to to log into my account after I had gone to bed.
Now I'm 100% sure someone else has access to the information I had put on my phone. I have reset my gmail password and my Facebook password to a much stronger password and I'm not touching my phone until my local IT look at it.
Is this a common thing with rooted phones sending information? I may have screwed up and bought a cheap phone that someone has rooted and is relaying information. Is there anything else I need to do make sure my other accounts, and banking account do not get hacked?
