I am familiar with conditional formatting based on duplicate values in Sheets, and I know you can reference other sheets in formulas; however, what I want to do is both at the same time.

I.e., I maintain a large Google sheet with email contacts in it. Sheet 1 is my friendlies list, people that I can count on to answer emails and phone calls. Sheets 2 through X are split up by vertical (healthcare, education, automotive, etc).

Email addresses are always in Column E.

Sometimes I copy/paste contacts into sheets 2 through X based on information from any number of sources.

What I want to happen is that if I paste a duplicate email address into a 2 through X sheet, the cell highlights yellow to alert me they are already in the friendlies list and I can delete that row.

How do I combine the =countif(E:E,E1)>1 formula with the ’Sheet X’ selector? I would assume it is an =countif (‘Sheet 2’ OR ‘Sheet 3’ OR ‘Sheet 4’ E:E,E1)>1 type of formula, but I’m in over my head.

Is it even possible?
