Tl;dr, should a device with a USB C port (specifically a pixel 2) be able to communicate with a PC over a USB A to USB A cable with an A to C adapter?
I recently got a new phone and after a lot of troubleshooting (cross testing cables adapters and even PCs, rebooting, factory resetting the phone, trying USB debugging mode, scanning for new hardware in device manager), this cable setup didn't work - consistently nothing detected on the PC and the phone tried to charge the attached device(!). Is this meant to work? I haven't found anything online about USB standards to say either way, so I assume it should (otherwise, what's the included adapter even for?) The only setup that did work was a USB A to USB C cable. This was flawless and immediate.
Anywhoo, I'm puzzled and think my shiny new toy might be broken. :p Any suggestions?
