Hey guys, I'm in desperate need of some help because I have almost reached my wit's end! I bought an M.2 PCIe NVME SSD but just cannot get Windows to properly boot from it. I've gone from total failure to boot, to booting from it sometimes and now I'm back to not booting at all again. Probably a result of trial and error, I don't know.
Anyway, here are my specs:
Mobo: ASUS Z97-PRO GAMER with BIOS version 2203
CPU: Intel® Core™ i5-4690K Processor
RAM: Crucial 1333MHz DDR3
HDD: WD Black 1TB
SSD1: Kingston SSDNow UV400
SSD2: WD Black PCIe Genx3 x4 NVMe SSD
GPU: NVIDIA GTX 970
PSU: 550W Sea Sonic 80+ Gold
SSD2 is the new one that I can't boot from. It's plugged directly into the M.2 socket on the board. First off my BIOS didn't even register the drive, figured I probably had an outdated BIOS so I updated it and hey presto, it appeared. I installed Windows 10 64-bit on it via DVD without issue, but when it restarted after installation to continue initial setup, it blue screened with 0xc00000e. Changed a few settings in the BIOS and miraculously after many restarts, I managed to continue the setup.
It worked intermittently for a while with the odd blue screen, but eventually it stopped booting again and kept doing the 0xc00000e blue screen. I changed loads of BIOS settings, re-installed countless times and tried Windows startup repair as well, all unsuccessful. I ran out of ideas, so I ended up switching back and reinstalling Windows to my old SATA SSD. It's working flawlessly again, but I'm kinda bummed I couldn't get the drive to work.
When I re-installed Windows onto my original SATA SSD, I did so in GPT mode. I checked Disk Management and noticed that Windows had made 4 partitions, however one thing I noticed is that when I re-installed Windows onto the new PCIe SSD, it was in GPT mode, but it only had one partition broughout the entire drive even though they were both setup in exactly the same way. Not sure if that's relevant, but it's something I noticed.
Any help would be so greatly appreciated, thanks very much for reading and if you need any more info please let me know.
