So I'm helping out a friend with upgrading RAM on his rig, The mobo is an Asus P6T Deluxe V2 and we definitely have compatible RAM but in the process of upgrading it we ran into the problem where only 16GB of RAM was usable out of the 24GB. We cornered it down to the A1 slot (i.e. 2nd RAM slot. which also interferes with the first slot (i.e. A2) )
Through Piriform Speccy, CPU-Z, and Ubuntu/ubuntu's memory check we confirmed that they were being recognized but the first 2 slots weren't being used. (as in they reported the same RAM as indicated physically, and timings and Specs of them) We also confirmed this result when we put in the original 3 × 2GB sticks and the mobo was only reporting 4GB as available.
Other than replacing the Asus board/getting a new rig, what options are there to repair that one slot? (both options being by myself or with a service technician?)
For reference I do a lot of SMD work with phones and other electronics so I'm not exactly opposed to getting down in the dirt/flux in this instance :p
