The issue: so I've noticed a few days ago that after my leaving my laptop open for a while I would return to it and the keyboard would still be lit up. This meant that instead of going to sleep my laptop's screen just went dark and only required a mouse movement to return to work instead of having to enter the password. This is annoying since it drains the battery and is also a security issue.

After some digging around I found a few people have had this issue but no actual solution. I went through the powercfg commands, and found this message under -requests:

SYSTEM: [DRIVER] Realtek High Definition Audio(SST) (INTELAUDIO\FUNC_01&VEN_10EC&DEV_0299&SUBSYS_17AA3801&REV_1000\4&22e7f418&0&0001) An audio stream is currently in use.

This happens even when there are no open applications. I tried uninstalling the realtek driver and reinstalling the latest one manually but the issue returns. Disabling the sound driver/ playback stereo device resolves the issue but it means i have no sound. I went through all the troubleshooting methods i've seen online, from returning all power configurations to default, and disabling Cortana to requestsoverride commnand but nothing seems to work.

I don't even understand how or why this is has to be an issue. Why is a non-existent audio stream bypassing my explicit instructions for the laptop to go to sleep? How do I locate this audio stream? Short of formatting the entire computer I don't know what's left to do, but even then there's no guarantee that it will solve this issue.
