So this problem started a few weeks ago and I cannot find any fixes.

Im running Windows 8.1 and every so often, everything freezes; browser, programs, windows explorer. I usually get two types of freezes

  1. temporary freeze, fixes itself after about 30 sec, audio continues for length of freeze.
  2. Watchdog_violation freeze, will stay frozen until BSOD, audio freezes (starts to loop, sounds like a buzz)

The freezes happen, as far as I know, completely randomly. Whenever Im doing something as simple as soley browsing reddit, or as complex as listening to music while play WoW and on discord. I can go an entire day without it happening, or have it happen 5 times in an hour. I've disabled a bunch of programs and it doesn't affect the frequency.

So far I've updated every driver I have, and tried looking at event viewer (finding nothing) The problem is it's such a generic issue that it's hard to find a specific fix online.

I think it might be my motherboard, because it's old and I saw that it might be an issue on one of the forums. However, I want to make sure before I drop money on it.

Build is:

MB: Gigabyte GA-970A

GPU: Asus 1060 6gb turbo

CPU: AMD 8320

RAM: Corsair Vengeance 2x4GB

Windows 8.1 64-bit

Thank you, guys
