So I just got my 8700k, mainly purchased it to get out of my stupid mATX case/extremely cheap Z170 motherboard and was basically an excuse to upgrade something while GPU prices sit super high.
Specs:
- i7-8700k @ 4.8GHz/1.25v
- H100i v2 240mm in push/pull config.
- ASRock Z370 Extreme4 motherboard
- GTX 1080 Founder's Edition
I got everything installed yesterday and now I'm having issues with heat, I've got an H100i V2 (front-mounted with push/pull fan setup) and at 4.8GHz @ 1.25v sit about 95c on stress tests and 80c - 85c in CPU demanding games.
If I boot into 5GHz @ 1.3v and try to stress test using anything really, AIDA64, Linx, or RealBench, it's pegged at 100c and thus clocks down aggressively.
I'd like to add a few things; first that that the pump is connected to the CPU_OPT header on the board and in BIOS is set to treat that header as a water pump. Second is I applied thermal compound using my usual method, a pea-sized drop of MX-4 on the IHS. The pump's screws are finger-tight, I am afraid of tightening too hard with a screwdriver and damaging my new $350 CPU. I though this would be fine because the screws are very finger-tight.
Any advice or help is greatly appreciated, this is my second time installing this cooler - last time I had it on a 6700k @ 4.5Ghz/1.3v and it was about 80c in stress tests, decent enough for me even though it seemed high still.
