I had a problem with a download stalling yesterday and wondered if there was an issue with my hard drive reporting the wrong Space Available.
I found the Error Check tool and decided to give that a go. It asked me to restart and then when it rebooted it displayed a message that it was repairing the drive. It then booted up Windows as normal.
Only today have I noticed that 300 GB worth of video and music has turned to 0 byte files. They still have the same name + locations but they are unplayable. Other video files from around the same time are fine. I can't find any connection as to why some were corrupted and others were fine.
I've accepted defeat that I'm not going to get my files back, but I want to know why this happened. It has to be the Error Check tool that caused it as the filed displayed their correct size before I used it. Also, is there a risk of it happening in the future?
