La Fondazione Feltrinelli ha deciso di annullare la conferenza del filosofo e scrittore francese Alain De Benoist.
La decisione dell'ente è avvenuta a seguito di una lettera decisamente critica verso l'invito a De Benoist, in quanto si sostiene che lo stesso pensatore francese sia ispiratore della moderna estrema destra populista rappresentata, in Italia, da formazioni come la Lega Nord e CasaPound.
Gli estensori della lettera hanno anche scritto che il pensiero di De Benoist, influenzato da Oswald Spengler e da Julius Evola, è estremamente forte nell'ambito dell'estrema destra nazionalista e la decisione della Feltrinelli è stata presa anche per evitare strumentalizzazioni politiche.
L'incontro di De Benoist, fondatore della 'Nouvelle Droite' e creatore di un pensiero politico non propriamente riconducibile a quello classico dell'estrema destra, era inserito nell'ambito di un ciclo di conferenze, chiamato 'What's Left, What's Right?', che aveva visto la partecipazione anche del noto politico di sinistra Yanis Varoufakis.
La cancellazione dell'invito ha scatenato alcune polemiche e ci sarebbe da dire che, in ambito strettamente intellettuale e culturale, la libertà d'espressione dovrebbe essere comunque valorizzata, specialmente se basata sulla ricerca di un serio dialogo tra pensieri e visioni del mondo differenti.
