A while ago I downloaded an executable file from a trusted source, but the download process was slow and stopped at least once (I had my browser resume it when it stopped midway). When I tried to run it, Windows popped up a message saying that the file was corrupted and couldn't run, so I uploaded the file to VirusTotal, which indicated that it was a new file that had never been scanned before (IIRC it said it was clean).
I'm not sure what caused the file to become corrupted, but I suspect that it was a problem on my end. This might be a dumb question, but I am wondering if whatever modified the file and corrupted it could have accidentally incorporated information about my computer and its files in with the corrupted executable. I know that this is technically possible (anything is possible on a computer if things go wrong enough), but how much of a risk is it and are there any known ways that this can happen?
