Hello,
Lately I've noticed that my front USB ports on my custom PC have been acting very strange. Sometimes, if things are plugged into them, I will do nothing but sit at my desk and my entire computer crashes, with the error code involving USB somehow. Other times, I will go to plug something in and I will hear the loud pop of static electricity, and the computer will crash.
I have 4 USB 3.0 ports on the front of my case, however, my motherboard only has one USB 3 header, and the case had two. I had to buy a USB 3 expansion card that had a header (which is powered by Molex).
Also, I am trying to get the photos off of a phone for a family friend, and plugging it into the front ports did not work, however plugging it into a back port worked perfectly.
Did I fry my USB ports, or is there some kind of activity I am doing that is putting the ports in danger and they are shutting themselves off?
