So my 14 year old son is gaining some computer knowledge, and he's definitely starting to surpass my own limited knowledge base. I USE computers effectively all the time, (effectively for my needs anyway) but I have no idea how they actually work. He is specifically learning how to use Command Prompt. He has shown me a few of the things he's able to do on our household network. He is a really great kid, and I want to trust that he wouldn't do anything malicious or damaging. But since he now knows more than I do about this stuff, I'm a little nervous. I don't want to forbid him from using this knowledge (he loves computers and of course I want to encourage that) but I also don't want to wake up and find out he has inadvertently disabled something important or compromised something or whatever. I'm sorry if this is an extremely stupid question - but do you guys have any advice? Should I forbid him from doing this? Is Command Prompt a big enough deal that he could do major damage without meaning to? Again I really don't think he would do anything damaging on purpose. Is there somewhere on the internet where he and I can go together to learn more about this stuff? Any input or advice from this community will be greatly appreciated. I know this is an extremely basic question for this sub, so let me know if there's somewhere more appropriate to ask this.
