I've had my computer for about 18 months, and this issue started about 6 months ago (At first it only happened when I was playing a certain game) but only recently got unbearably extreme no matter what program is producing the audio.

I'm experiencing some sort of audio distortion through my headset. There is no background static, there is only distortion of any system audio. What I find particularly strange about it is that it starts off unnoticeable and gets worse over time. For example, if I watch a YouTube video it starts off perfectly normal. Soon after starting you can hear some very light buzzing during loud sections of the video. By the end of the video, it is completely incomprehensible. If I immediately restart the video it will start off as distorted as it was when it ended, but if I wait a while and then restart it will "calm down" and start off without distortion (and build it up again over the course of the video). It is also really bad for games. Some games are horrible right away and other take some time to get distorted. I haven't found a pattern yet.
I've tested the following:
- USB headset on Win10 computer = Static
- 3.5mm headset on Win10 computer = Static
- Monitor via DP on Win10 computer = Perfect
- USB headset on MacBook Pro = Perfect
This means that my USB headset is not the problem, and that the distortion is only happening on audio devices connected to my PC via USB or 3.5mm. I recorded my system video & audio with OBS and the recording did not have the static, suggesting it is not system-wide.
I've tried updating drivers but I'm not finding anything that's out of date.
Any ideas?
Relevant specs of my PC: - Windows 10 Home (64 Bit) with latest updates - Asus Z170-AR Motherboard - No sound card - If more is needed please ask
