Hey Reddit gurus I have a client who runs LEAP legal software, They have 3 Machines running Windows 10 Pro 64B (1703, And office 2016.
There was an update to the software which updated fine on 2 machines which was initiated from within the software its self. However one system wouldn't check for updates and said contact support which they did. LEAP support then removed the software and tried to reinstall But were unable to.
So I was called in when the installer starts which seems to be a windows installer and an installshield wizard, Straight away says Word, Excel, Outlook are in use, As well as Leap Desktop and Leap Timesheets which is odd cause the software is no where to be found.
The Exact message is: The following applications are using files that need to be updated by this setup. Please close these applications and click retry to continue.
Have verified that no office applications are running using process explorer and no other app is linked into it. I noticed that the icons for office files were missing so I did a full repair of the office suite to repair any issue and to put on latest version matching the other machines, Chkdsk, SFC Scan all clear,
Latest Windows updates applied expect for the latest feature update. Antivirus software was disabled then removed completely. I am not sure where to go next and LEAP support is totally useless they were ones that uninstalled all together and cant reinstall it. And the best they can say is it's an environmental issue between Windows and Microsoft???. And they cant provide support any further or any steps to go off. So it went from 95% Functioning to 0%.
