Hello all,
First of all I’d like to say thank you to all who answer and continue to help people with absolutely no recognition or recompense. It is the efforts of folks like yourselves that a lot of facets of life continue to revolve, and after searching for my problems in this forum I am blown away by how many dedicated people offer their assistance to others here.
Onto the issue I’m having, here is a timeline. To preface, I am fairly non-technical even though I built my PC. I am operating on Windows 8.1, with a GTX 980TI (I believe), I’m typing this with my PC off from my phone so if you need extra information hopefully I can get it from safe mode

Start up Overwatch as usual. As soon as I hit “search competitive”, game freezes. I get a message saying “Rendering Device Lost!”. It prompts me to exit the program, and I do. However, as I get to task manager things slowly freeze up and I have to press my tower power button to get it off.

I boot again. I figure it’s a weird glitch, so I boot again and go back to overwatch. I search competitive again, and same deal except this time everything freezes and I have to press tower power button again. It boots. Computer seems laggy. I search some stuff on the overwatch forums thinking back that it’s something I can fix. I find some advice recommending I do some step (I’m sorry I don’t remember fully, I was frantic). I believe it was some kind of system file checker that is done through command prompt. It displays a percentage that rises, and I’m thinking that at the end of the process it will fix some crazy file that has gone bad and things will go back to normal. When the percentage reaches 100%, my PC restarts on its own. The computer tries to boot, and nothing happens on the screen.

This time I press the power to boot again, and nothing shows up on the screen. I figure this is bad, so I power down again from the tower and take out the memory, video card and power connectors and dust some stuff off and clean things thoroughly.

I power on again. “MSI” shows up and the little loading icon consisting of revolving spheres comes up again as normally happens during boot. However, this time this strange artifacting happens as you’ll see here. https://imgur.com/gallery/Syxwl

It goes to trouble shooting, where I choose to just format. I insert my handy recovery USB and start the process. Once this finishes, a brand new OS starts up. I try to restore things from a system image backup I have from a month ago. This process goes smoothly.

I’m excited. After the image does what it does, it prompts me to restart the computer. Boot comes up, and same fucking artifacting comes up following the display of the MSI logo.

It goes back to recovery options. I choose to boot in safe mode, and at this point I am pleading with the PC gods to have mercy. It boots into safe mode, albeit with the state of my PC as it was at the beginning of December 1st.
So here I am. Those are my symptoms, and at this point I’m sitting in safe mode with no internet (is safe mode disabling my internet?).
Can anyone help me with this? I am at my wits end, and very concerned with this PC I put my love into. Again, I am truly grateful for any help.
