Un insediamento etrusco risalente al 9 secolo a.C. sulle coste sarde, nei pressi di Olbia: la straordinaria presenza è emersa nel corso di una revisione dei ritrovamenti degli ultimi anni della Soprintendenza per le province di Sassari e Nuoro. L’area dell’insediamento - informa un comunicato della Soprintendenza - è localizzata sull’isolotto di Tavolara, una posizione che consentiva una certa cautela nei contatti con gli abitanti della costa e dell’entroterra.
Allo stato attuale delle ricerche, notano gli archeologi, non si può tuttavia escludere che vi siano stati altri insediamenti villanoviani in Gallura, regione che fronteggia l’Etruria, i cui grandi centri come Populonia, Vetulonia, Vulci, Tarquinia, destinati a divenire le grandi città etrusche, nascono proprio nell’epoca in questione, la prima età del ferro, a cui si datano, in Sardegna, anche le statue di Monte Prama.
«Gli scambi tra la Sardegna `nuragica´ e l’aspetto culturale della prima età del ferro dell’Etruria detto `villanoviano´ sono ben noti e ampiamente studiati, ma finora non era documentata la presenza di una comunità proveniente dalla sponda etrusca stanziata e prosperata in Sardegna», sottolinea l’archeologo Francesco di Gennaro, «Si tratta quindi di una novità assoluta che costituisce un balzo in avanti nella ricostruzione dei rapporti tra le due sponde del Tirreno in epoca protostorica».
Un dato archeologico che aiuta a comprendere il dinamismo e la propensione marinara della gente stanziata in Etruria nella prima età del ferro (9 -8 sec. a.C.) è la presenza di una linea costiera di abitati nel Lazio settentrionale e in Toscana, in cui già a prima vista si notano significativi confronti con i materiali dell’insediamento scoperto a Tavolara.
