I want to start by explaining that, even though some of the stuff below might make it seem like I know a lot, I am actually not at all super savvy on this kind of stuff so while I'm willing to try and learn how to anything I may need you guys to ELI5 for a lot of stuff.
A few days ago I tried to boot up my HP desktop pc after a long vacation I got an error message "error: no boot disk detected or the disk has failed" I'll be honest at this point I thought about getting a new computer but I literally could not afford one so I tried to see if I could fix it. I did some research online and after opening up my pc I came to the conclusion that my hard drive was toast and I ordered a new SSD from Amazon. I just installed the SSD and tried to turn it back on, but I got the same message (very disheartening.) Strangely though, if I go into my BIOS before the computer tries to boot up I can see my SSD in the storage section so now I don't know what to do.
I have a live USB with Ubuntu (my preferred OS) on it that I am pretty sure still works (last used it a while ago and I don't exactly have another computer to see if everything is still in working order for it.) I have made sure the boot order goes to USB first but I still end up at the same error screen.
The SSD is a SSD Plus 240 GB (I don't need a lot of space) by SanDisk. A new SATA cable came with it so I know that isn't the issue.
If you guys could help me with this I would be in your debt so much.
