Hi, so I'm looking at either upgrading or adding an extra SSD or HDD to my SOs laptop and just need to some help/clarification with what the mother board supports. It came with an internal 128GB SSD.
I'm more of a desktop kind of guy and have built my own PC several times, so I know my way around desktops but as for laptops, I know the principle is the same but I've never had to do anything with them. Don't worry though, I'll be enlisting the help of my old man (so i don't fuck shit up) who works with laptops all day every day (head of IT at a high school where they give the kids laptops).
The sticker on the laptop says it is:
Aspire F5-573 series
Model No. N16Q2
I'm having a bit of trouble finding the exact specs online and what the laptop can hold/support so I thought I'd come here, before spending $200-$500 on a new SSD that doesn't fit or isn't compatible!
So far, I've discovered that the "F5-573G" has a M.2 2280 slot available to it (does this cover the exact laptop we have?).
What I need clarifying:
Can I just put another SSD in, rather than replacing the one that is already in there? If so, will I be able to attach them both to the motherboard directly (M.2) or will I need a cable?
Can I put a HDD in as an extra, instead?
What type of HDDs and SSDs are compatible with the laptop? am I limited to M.2 2280 or can I put inferior SSDs in and if so, what else will I need in order to do so (like a cable)?
Thanks in advance!
