Description of problem
I had just today purchased a refurbished Lenovo T440 with Windows 10 from the CanadaComputers location near my apartment. On the box it says, Microsoft authorized refurbisher and it appears in good condition.There were some other strange occurrences which I didn't think much of until after which I'll get to later. The first roadblock I encountered was when I tried to download Chrome from the google website. When I tried to download it, it said it could not be downloaded. If I hit retry, it appears to download but the setup file is actually saved as _exe instead of .exe and I can't do anything with the file. I tried downloading a different program as I thought maybe there was just a problem with the download link. I tried to download the setup file for MATLAB, which I need for my school, and it downloaded as _exe again.
My computer was still in the process of doing a Windows Update which it had been doing since the end of the Windows setup process but had got to about 80% and then started going very slowly and eventually appeared to stop. When it started the download, it said it was 3GB in size which usually takes around 10 min or less on my internet. Also there appears to be nothing wrong with my download speed on my desktop on the same internet. Eventually I just restarted the computer to see if it would help anything, this closed the Windows update before completion I don't even know what update it was doing. Some sort of feature update. This did not solve the file extension problem. I brought up Windows update again and when I try to start that update again, it just fails. It says it's a feature update.
Some other bizarre things I didn't take note of until later but when I first took the laptop out of the box and plugged it in, it booted up immediately without touching the power button. Also, I don't have experience with refurbished computers before now so I'm not sure if this is normal, but it went straight into the Windows 10 setup process and has not asked me for a product key at any point. In the instructions for setting up Windows 10 that come with the computer, there's a part about a product key for refurbished Windows products. It says, you will need to scratch off part of the sticker and enter the key. My computer does have the same sticker as pictured with a product key on the back but the scratch part has already been scratched off. I'm guessing the refurbished product had already been purchased by somebody and returned to the store? Are they allowed the sell it with the scratched off sticker or is that normal for refurbished products?
One last thing. The computer says it has already used 48GB of memory space. I know the OS takes up space, but I thought it was a lot less than that. Is it just all the updates or is this not normal? I have not downloaded or installed anything else.
Should I just do a system restore or will I not be able to activate the product or return it anymore if I do?

Anytime I try to download something, at least using Edge, the only installed browser (and I can't download any others), it does not download the files properly, or at least cannot recognize them.
