I moved to an apartment in July. From the onset of moving in my Xbox would connect to Xbox live but the connection would be too unstable to do any online gaming and whilst my phone was connected to the internet I would constantly have reddit and other apps timing out or losing connection. First we had Comcast replace the router, that didn’t work. 2nd Comcast sent out some guy to tell me I set up the internet wrong and try to fight me (no joke). Third Comcast began sending out third party contractors, first they pulled an old splitter and wiring from the connection in my wall. Next they decided the wiring running through the entire apt building was faulty and it all had to be redone...
After months of complaining and waiting, I finally convinced my apt building to allow third party guys to run a direct line from the box outdoors underground up to the side of my apt and in through an outdoor closet to attempt to fix my internet. The new direct line fixed the issues I would experience on my phone or pc but I still have constant problems connecting to Xbox services.
The steps I have taken on my phone to fix this, were ordering a 25 foot long Ethernet cable and hardwiring my Xbox, didn’t work. Upgrading my Xbox to a One S, didn’t work. And placing my Xbox directly next to the router while disconnecting all other devices, didn’t work.
On my Xbox my NAT type constantly changes and it reports I have high packet loss. I’m not sure how this could be possible through hardwiring to a router with gigabit speed but apparently it is. The strangest part is that streaming works like a charm it’s just connecting to any multiplayer server is impossible.
The only additional information I could think to give is that I have a 2.5 and 5ghz router neither of which channels seems to be effective.
If any one could at least explain the problem to me even if there’s no way to fix it I would love to know what the hell is going on here and if I should terminate my lease when the time comes. Sorry for odd formatting am typing this on mobile.
