She posted an apology shortly after the childish attack.
A Department of Housing and Urban Development official appointed by President Donald Trump is apologizing after calling journalist April Ryan "Miss Piggy" on Twitter.
Lynne Patton is one of 10 regional administrators for HUD, which had a budget above $48 billion last year. According to her resume, she had no experience in housing prior to her appointment.
Patton disparaged Ryan on Twitter as a "blogger working for a bankrupt outlet." Ryan is the Washington, D.C. bureau chief for American Urban Radio Networks and a CNN contributor. Ryan was also honored by the National Association of Black Journalists as journalist of the year in 2017.
Amid the Twitter feud, Patton tried to publicly shame Ryan by posting an unflattering still image and calling the journalist "Miss Piggy." Then Patton deleted the tweet, which can be seen below via screenshot.
“I deleted my last tweet by choice. No one from this Administration contacted me. It was beneath me & I apologize to @AprilDRyan. My parents raised me to respect others & I regret my response. I apologize to them, @SecretaryCarson & the Trump family. They deserved better.”
The insulting tweet remains on Patton's profile as of this writing.
