So I originally thought it was the fan, and ordered a used part online. Thankfully only $20. But now I'm not so sure.
As soon as the computer is on, the CPU temp is right to 60°C, and only gets hotter the longer it's on. The CPU load isn't big, the RAM load is about 40%. When running programs like Chrome individually, the CPU temp will get up to 80°C, and the fan will sound very loud, yet not a lot of air can be felt coming out of the vent. Some, but there's no force behind it.
I opened it up, looked at the fan, and it's almost spotless. I suspect it was cleaned when I brought it in for a HDD replacement. It spins freely when given a push. I turned it on without the battery or back, and the fan definitely runs, but I'm not sure how well it's actually working. Light air suction, but almost no air coming out the vent. Not even enough to move the flame on a match.
It's all very puzzling, because again, it looks really clean, but there's just not very much airflow. Does this sound like a fan problem, or something else?
