Hello, this weekend I completed my first ever PC build and it's been relatively successful apart from an issue I'm having with Windows 10. It seems like I've foolishly brought a fake/stolen copy of Windows 10 from Amazon as despite having installed it successfully onto my new system it's not recognising the windows key as being valid and is preventing me from doing customisation and some other stuff.
I looked at my Amazon order again and it seems I'd brought it from a seller rather than microsoft as I thought I was doing. There are loads of poor reviews for the seller stating the same issue I'm having with the product keys people have been given. I got in contact with Amazon and I think they're sending me a refund so that's a relief.
But now it seems I have to buy Windows 10 from the Windows store (for £30 more than I paid for the scam product, sadly) and I just have some questions about it before I proceed.
1) Can I just purchase it from the windows store and use the key I get on my current installation as a solution or is each installation linked to a key meaning I'd have to reinstall windows 10?
2) If I can just use the product key with my current installation but later find theres an issue with it because it wasnt a legit copy can I just reinstall windows from the download I'll get with the key and use the key with it or will having registered it with my current installation cause problems with the new install?
3) Do I just put the download onto a USB stick and then boot from it in BIOS like I did when installing windows originally? Will this wipe all the stuff on my pc as well, will I have to reinstall all my drivers and things again?
4) I have a new usb stick but it seems to have something preinstalled onto it, I think it's like software for if you wanted to encrypt or password lock the usb stick. Do I need to clear all that stuff via formatting the usb stick before it can host the download from the windows store?
