I'm trying to format a USB drive and have it show up as one drive when I plug it into my computer.
Background
I got a Lexar LJDP20-64G for a class and the operation we used it for severely messed it up. We were "linking" our USBs to an in class computer that made it so they would only function properly on that in-class computer. We basically made the USB a key and storage device for our CentOS user account on that computer. The process was essentially loading CentOS from a DVD to the computer, then "loading it onto our USB drives." It was recommended that we get a fast one, so I did, and to my surprise it took about 8 hours to fully load onto the supposed "400MB/s read and 270MB/s write" drive. I only say we "linked" it because I don't entirely know what we did it for and I even asked the professor and they didn't seem to know exactly either; I think it was something left over from a previous professors teachings, but I digress.
Current Problem
Now that I am done with that class and computer, I want to use the USB again normally but whenever I plug it in to my Windows 10 computer I get a few problems:
- I get multiple appearances of it on the left pane of the file explorer. One is slightly more left, suggesting it is not exactly part of the same tree as the other instance of it.
- When attempting to format it, I will reportedly complete the format but the "Format usb drive" screen pops up as soon as I complete a format.
