Title says it all. A friend wanted to put an SSD in her laptop and when she went to detach the keyboard ribbon from the socket she just pulled on it until it popped out. She didn't realize there was a clip there holding it in. When she put it back together many keys didn't work. We've tried to reconnect it many times, including using small wedges to hold the ribbon in tightly but nothing's been a 100% fix.
I think it's safe to assume that the end of the ribbon is damaged and the quickest fix is to replace the keyboard. What I don't know is if what she did might have also damaged the socket on the mobo side. She didn't yank it out Hulk style, just a constant tug until it popped out. Does anyone know if it is common for the socket to also be damaged by this kind of mistake?
