Hello
This happened 3 days ago and I am struggling on figuring it out on my own.
I am having some issues with my computer that I built in 2011 and have slowly upgraded since then. My most recent update has turned up in failure for the moment - I purchased an intel celeron i5 processor to replace the current one (specs below) but learned through trial and error that the i5 is not compatible with my motherboard. I didn't try to seal the new processor, I noticed quickly that it was not going to fit. I didn't close the gate on it or press hard on it whatsoever which makes me feel like I did not bend a pin in the motherboard. So I reseated the old processor with chagrin and plugged my power and video cables back into my tower but my AOC 24" monitor did not pick up any video through my Nvidia geforce 730 (plugged in through DVI). I made sure the cable was plugged into the correct spot and I have taken it out and put it back in and reseated the gpu maybe 3 times since this happened. I have run a multitude of troubleshooting and I am currently at a loss for why my computer does not recognize my gpu. The GPU fan spins (receives power), but when I open the device manager the only display adapter that displays is the Intel(R) HD Graphics, and not the NVIDIA card. I uninstalled all NVIDIA drivers and all AMD drivers (this gpu is an upgrade from the original gpu which was an AMD), and I downloaded NVIDIA geforce experience and the most up to date driver for this card but Nvidia won't install the driver because it does not recognize the card on my pc (fails hardware specs). I have gone into the BIOS for the PC and attempted to change the primary display adapter to my GPU and that did not work either, but I did end up losing video in both my gpu and my cpu, so I had to pop the battery out of the motherboard and put it back in to reset to factory settings, which is what it's at now. I am currently plugged into my motherboard with my graphics card plugged in and running. I need to get a new motherboard to make the i5 compatible with my build but I would like to make sure this GPU works before I do that. I have not tried the GPU in another machine.
Is there a way to salvage my current build?
What should I do? I would like to use this build until my new motherboard arrives, also I have yet to purchase a new motherboard (i5 wasn't exactly cheap). I would like a recommendation as to what to purchase as well.
Thanks for taking the time to read this and please send help.
