So, with a tight budget for this, I can either get another 1TB hard drive (in addition to the included 5300rpm one) or a 120GB ssd (I don't intend on saving much for this so those are the two only options).
I just got a laptop with an i5 7200u and integrated graphics (say what you want about iGPUs, but for me it's serviceable and tech isn't really that cheap where I live). I'll game on it, will have more than just a few games installed and I can live without a system ssd (I have a ssd on my desktop and I already know what I'm misssing without it), however I don't want to get a new faster drive and get rid of the old one, and I've never used raid before, so I wanted to get some input.
So, can I get a second 5300rpm hard drive (would install it in the optical drive bay, don't care about keeping it) and make a raid configuration that just works? Or is it necessary to match the same hdd model?
And if I do, would the new speeds be any better than a regular 7200rpm drive? Because if they're not noticeably superior I might just go with the ssd and forget about it (which would kinda make me sad).
Please reply taking in consideration my situation instead of just jumping to the generic "a ssd is always better than a ahrd drive" comment, I am the kind of person that has a lot of games installed at all times and a 500GB ssd is significantly more expensive to me, way beyond what I would pay for that laptop (my productivity needs for it are pretty basic).
Tl;Dr: Capacity needs are more important to me than stupidly great speeds, but still need a speed upgrade, is 2x 5300rpm hdd raid worth it?
