Obligatory: I have no idea what I'm doing, so there might be stupid questions ahead.
I run a small business, and since we opened, my parents had used this archaic fax machine at their business to help send and receive faxes from our suppliers.
Well my parents have retired recently, and now I'm in need to setup the Fax line on our All-In-One Printer and I am completely at a loss as to where to begin. They also aren't very helpful as they had an old fax machine at the time, which they have since gotten rid of, and have never setup this way before either.
So right now my situation is:
I have 1 phone line
Apparently that's fine as long as i'm ok with a distinctive ring (or I can setup a 2nd line, not sure if that'll cost me, but would like to avoid if i don't have to). As far as I can recall, the few times I've ever touched a fax, if someone calls in and it's the other sound, I just turn on the fax machine and press start??? Is that even how it works on the AIO printer?
The closest phone jack to the AIO Printer is connected to a central phone
By central phone I mean the main phone that needs the jack in it, so the other handhelds receive a phone signal. So if I want to tap into this wall jack, do I need a splitter of some sort? Is that how it works? I'm under the impression a phone splitter works like an aux one?
Fax Modem vs Server
I'm looking at the Windows Fax and Scan, seems like I need one or the other, is one choice better than the other? I've found USB fax modems on places like Amazon, but reading up on fax servers is confusing me. Also if I get either, is this suppose to connect to my phone line too?
I think that's all the questions I have so far (might update as things arise), so any help or direction would be greatly appreciated!
