Hillsborough County Sheriff’s detectives are still investigating the shooting deaths of two persons including a 15-year-old girl.
Julissa Jackson, 15, and Jyhaad D. Grant, 25, both of Tampa, were shot to death by private security officers.
Investigators have also released the identity of the security guards, who work for Eagle One Security Force, - Keyon Williams, 28, and Connor Harm, 18.
The sheriff’s department also have stated that they discovered two handguns in a car that the two people were occupying at the time they were shot to death by security guards outside a New Year’s party for teenagers.
Relatives of the victims had questioned the version of the shooting told to police by the security guards and police have not verified their story which is that they discharged their weapons in self-defense after they heard gunshots and saw someone firing a weapon from inside a black Nissan Sentra.
Preliminary evidence suggests both weapons recovered from the Sentra were fired at the scene, according to the Sheriff’s Office. The 9-mm pistol and a .380 caliber handgun were found after detectives executed a search warrant for the Sentra.
Investigators would not comment on the sequence of events in the shootings and whether they believe anyone one else was firing.
The question that must be answered by sheriff investigators is; was this a case of self-defense or were the deceased individuals shooting in the air, known as celebratory gunfire, something often done on New Year’s Eve and 4th of July.
Grant was on felony probation stemming from a case last year and was not allowed to have a gun. Records show he pleaded guilty in Hillsborough County to carrying a concealed, firearm, grand theft, resisting a law enforcement officer with violence, uttering a forged instrument and possession of marijuana.
Angel Madison, Grant’s girlfriend of eight years and the mother of his two-month old daughter, was surprised to hear that guns were found in the car.
"I didn’t know he had any guns at all," Madison said.
The owner of the security firm that employs the two security guards now under investigation, is already facing a lawsuit stemming from the shooting of a bystander at a Brandon night club five years ago.
Andre Jennings, Sr. and his firm, Eagle One Security Force, are among the defendants in the lawsuit filed last year by Alejandro Uribe, who was shot in the leg in the parking lot of the Boomerang Martini Bar on Dec. 22, 2012. The suit claims Jennings acted negligently when he shot at an armed man in the parking lot of the now-shuttered club, striking Uribe in the process.
No charges have been filed in the case and the investigation continues, the Sheriff’s Office said.
Anyone with any information is asked to call the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office at (813) 247-8200.
This is a developing story. We will continue to update you as more details are made available.
