TL;DR: plugged in new mouse, computer started acting up, don't know if it was a direct cause or not. saw windows processes taking up 100% of my disk usage while sitting idle. Finally got disk usage down temporarily, but gameplay still suffers. Tried everything I could find from every website to fix overall PC performance. Nothing works. Yes i've updated graphics cards and all of that.
I built a new PC about a month ago, specs here:
Processor: AMD Ryzen 1400
GPU: EVGA GTX 1060 3GB
CPU: MSI B350M GAMING MOTHERBOARD
RAM: G.Skill Aegis DDR4 8GB (1x)
Power: Corsair 450W Bronze Certified
MEMORY: SeaGate FireCuda Hybrid 1TB
and the computer has been fine for that month. I've been able to play a lot of demanding games, such as, BF1, GTAV, Dark Souls III, and DOOM, all at our around max settings, at 60 fps.
But yesterday I went to log in to play games, and I noticed my computer was struggling to load up, struggling to open steam, and struggling to load these games.
Here is what I know , Christmas Eve, I was online for a few hours before I had to leave around 6PM. I got back, with a gift from my uncle, which was a new mouse. I already had a mouse, but wanted to try the new one out, so I unplugged my old one, and in the new one. Tried it out, then swapped back. Was able to play a little longer before I noticed my computer being unbearably slow.
Thought at first it was a graphical driver that needed updating, I noticed there was an update, so I updated. Still performance issues. These performance issues weren't just in game, doing ANYTHING on my computer was 3x as slow.
Got frustrated so I turned off my PC and went to bed, woke up this morning and got back on, still the same issues. I started googling and then realized my Disk Space in Task Manager was always at or around 100% usage, despite the biggest program running, which was google at 2.4mb/s. I continued to google more based off what I just found out, and saw others were having the same issue, so I followed suit and did what the website told me to do, still no change.
Then I thought it could've been GPU was incompatible due to new update with the CPU so I updated that, still no change. Then there was an article telling me to change the PC performance in the system settings from whatever its on to max performance. I did that and my disk usage dropped, but only temporarily. It still spikes to 100% randomly from time to time. But despite that, I'm still suffering major in my games.
BF1 goes from 60FPS to a power point almost every 30 seconds, PUBG is completely unplayable, NFS Playback is a power point simulator. Nothing works, almost every game I own is unplayable.
I don't know what else to do, I've tried downgrading back to my old GPU update, nothing. One website mentioned reinstalling the ram, so I did, nothing. I reinstalled the actual GPU into my mobo, nothing. All my games are still power points. I've also used a second SATA cable to connect to my hard drive. Still no luck.
Then my friend mentioned that perhaps it was because I plugged in a new mouse, and the drivers are slowing my computer down. I don't think thats the case cause I constantly plug and unplug things from my PC all the time.
So my last resort is to factory system restore to default windows settings. Which is what I don't want to do, but a lot of the websites i've seen have that as a last resort. I'm hoping you guys can help me out. If there is anymore information needed I'll try to provide it. Thanks!
edit: formatting and i was able to play "at or around max settings at 60 fps"
