Hi, guys! Any feedback you could provide with this issue would be greatly appreciated because I am at a total loss at the moment.
BACKGROUND
I have an Asus laptop that was originally running Windows 7, but I upgraded to Windows 10 last summer and haven’t had any major issues until very recently. My laptop had a Windows update before shutting down a few nights ago and while it ran just fine early on, I noticed a huge nosedive in performance not long after: lagging, freezing, startup taking three times longer than it used to, icons and files losing their text, opening websites causing the computer to slow down completely until I closed it, simple tasks kicking the PC into overdrive, programs crashing, etc.... As I mentioned earlier, things had been running just fine until it auto-updated, so I figured that was the culprit. I assumed the best course of action would be a recovery by going back to the previous version of Windows 10.
After initiating the recover and letting it run for about 2 hours and change, I came to see that it showing a BSOD. It didn’t give me any other options other than to insert the Windows recovery tools (more on that in a bit) and restarting. I restarted it and the following cycle started, I haven’t been able to get past it.
BSOD CYCLE
1) Computer restarts
2) Windows Icon appears on screen. Loading icon appears not long after.
3) I get this BSOD saying
Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart. We’re just collecting some error info and then we’ll restart for you.
4) About 5 seconds later, PC restarts on it’s own
5) After this restart, I get the Asus logo.
6) Another blue screen saying:
Your PC couldn’t start properly
A required device isn’t connected or can’t be accessed.*
Error code: 0xc0000225*
You’ll need to use recovery tools. If you don’t have any installation media (like a disc or USB device), contact your PC administrator or PC/Device manufacturer.
WHAT I'VE TRIED
I did some YouTubing and Googling surrounding the error code 0xc0000225 and most solutions involved using the Windows Recovery Tools from their website (I think the technical term is the Media Creation Tool?) to remove the update and perform a repair of the drive. After downloading it, I had the option of installing the software (Windows 64bit) onto a USB flash drive or a burning it onto a DVD. I opted to try the flash drive first.
However, after shutting down the laptop, inserting the flash drive into a USB drive, and starting the PC back up, the same cycle listed above continued. I tried restarting yet again, but it wouldn’t pick it up. After numerous attempts, my laptop wouldn’t recognize the thumb drive or get any sort reaction out of it. It just continued doing the same thing before with just going from BSOD to BSOD. My laptop has 3 different places I can insert a USB flash drive, so I tried all 3 with the same result.
I ran to Target and bought some DVDs to write the Windows 10 ISO file onto and tried that next. Unfortunately, I got the same result. The DVD starts spinning vigorously, but it doesn’t seem to have any effect. The same cycle continues and I can’t get any sort of response from the DVD, just like the flash drive.
Before I forget, I should mention that on the 2nd BSOD, the one that mentions the error code 0xc0000225, it has 2 options at the bottom:
Press Enter to try again or....
Press F8 for Startup Settings
The Startup Settings include
1) Enable debugging
2) Enable boot logging
3) Enable low-resolution video
4) Enable Safe Mode
5) Enable Safe Mode with Networking
6) Enable Safe Mode with Command Prompt
7) Disable driver signature enforcement
8) Disable early launch anti-malware protection
9) Disable automatic restart after failure
Here is an image of the screen
I have tried all 9 of these options, but the results remain the same - I can’t get pas the damn BSODs :[
Do you guys have any idea of what I can do? I clueless as to how to proceed next. There are several files that I would really like to retrieve from this PC that aren’t backed up anywhere, so anything you guys might be able to enlighten me to would be greatly appreciated. If there’s any details I’ve left out, apologies in advance! I’ll gladly provide all the info I can.
