i built a new pc about a week ago and after getting all of the drivers installed it worked fine and i would let it idle for a few days.
however, as of a few days ago, my computer will just suddenly go to a black screen, regardless of what i'm doing. it is not a blue screen error; the fans suddenly whir up for a little bit, the display turns off, and all of the usb devices are powered off. i cannot reset the computer using the reset button while it is in this state and i have to fully power the machine off and turn it back on.
my temps are all relatively cool and components are not overheating. i thought i would try running a few benchmark tools. i ran prime95 for about six or so hours and ran into no issues or overheating shutdowns. i then tried testing my gpu with furmark with 8x anti-aliasing. about ten minutes into the test the computer did that random shut down - fans kept running, all usb devices are powered off. i figured, "okay maybe i should try to not let the PC idle" and tried playing doom 2016 (the most intensive game i have) to see what that might do. the crash/shutdown happened again. as of right now, i have not tested the memory using memtest because i'm not sure if this issue will affect that bit of testing.
i have checked the motherboard voltages through hwinfo32 and they all fall within appropriate tolerances. i've gone out of my way to disable the processor's c6 state because of some issues that causes with windows 10 specifically.
i've made sure that windows 10 is not set to go to sleep/hybrid sleep and set all timers to "never" to rule out the possibility of an unrecoverable sleep/hibernation state.
i'm not sure what else to really do and i don't want to have to RMA any components if i absolutely do not have to. could it possibly be my gpu isn't getting enough power? or is something wrong with the memory? is my psu faulty?
