I have a Lenovo v570 laptop, about five years old.

The AC adapter it came with began sparking, so I got replacement #1. After a year or two, the cord between the adapter and the laptop started to fray at the point where the cord meets the adapter, as well it would sometimes make a cracking sound of the cord was touched, so I replaced it with replacement #2 (replacement #1 still works, however. I just sent the safe rather than sorry route).

Last week, I was running on AC power (I always use my laptop on AC power; battery is charged only to 50%) and the laptop tells me to plug in because my battery is at 7%. I checked and even though the AC adapter was plugged in, the computer wasn't using it and wasn't charging the battery. The AC adapter's orange light was still on, though.

I did some troubleshooting - I tried running the laptop off the adapter only with the battery taken out. It wouldn't start. I then tried replacement #1, which I still had on hand. It can both charge the battery and also solely run the laptop without a battery. This leads me to believe that replacement #2 is the culprit.

Thoughts? Suggestions on what to do next?
