This is an older desktop (built about four years ago), and I haven't had any hardware changes or major software changes recently. Starting this week when I boot up the machine, I will occasionally get an error during booting saying "The current BIOS setting do not fully support the boot device. Press [F1] to enter the BIOS setup [etc.]". When that happens I restart the machine and the next time it boots it seems to work okay.
After some googling, one post suggested that it may be the beginnings of a HDD failure. I have a few questions
1) Is the likely cause of the BIOS error hard disk related? Are there other possible candidates I should investigate first?
2) My desktop currently has an internal SSD and an internal HDD. How can I check both to make sure that neither of them are failing?
3) The HDD is the data drive while the SSD has Windows installed on it. If I need to replace the HDD, could I copy all the files over to a new HDD, then remount the HDD with the old drive letter?
