This is very consistent. I've reset the BIOS on my Krait Z170A motherboard and I'm not overclocking. My PSU is a Corsair CX850M rated at 800W and is showing good voltage across all rails when tested. I've run Memtest for over 12 hours with no errors reported. I've cleaned my video drivers with Wagnardsoft Display Driver uninstaller and then installed the latest NVIDIA drivers. I have a single monitor connected to the GPU through the DVI port. The sequence goes like this:

  • Install GPU, boot PC and run trouble-free for about 4 hours.
  • PC black screens with all fans running. Perform hard reboot
  • The PC then fails to restart. The fans don't even come up so obviously it doesn't POST.
  • Physically uninstall GPU. Reboot successfully using onboard graphics.
  • Shutdown, put GPU back in and boot normally for another 4 hours of so.
  • Lather, rinse, repeat.

Any ideas? The card is ZOTAC that is an RMA replacement for an identical card that failed on me under somewhat similar circumstances last summer. Oh, and the original threw a fan blade.
