Description of Original Problem:
Just got a new Ryzen 5 and Gigabyte B350m-Gaming 3. The new M.2 system drive is working great but the previously fine Western Digital 1TB HDD is ridiculously slow. I can't even complete crystaldiskmark but I see ~3MB/s usage while testing or trying to install something. Sometimes trying to use the drive causes the PC to hang. My other mechanical disks are in the range of 70-90 MB/s.
Fresh Windows installation. Single user.
This is probably the root cause of my other post because it was too slow to take the permissions.
Troubleshooting:
I've installed the AMD chipset driver.
Run Seatools to rule out HDD errors, SMART OK, short test OK.
Swapped out the SATA cable and tried three different SATA ports on the MB so far (SATA0,1 and ASATA0).
Updated BIOS to F10. RAM is now at 2800 MHz but HDD still runs awfully.
Attempted to re-partition and (non-quick) format. This appeared to be happening at the same rate (~3 MB/s).
Nuked it using DBAN at ~100 MB/s so not a hardware issue.
Re-initializing with no partition table led to the same result.
