I've recently moved into a new place and have had trouble with my internet connection. I believe the crux of the issue is something severely hampering single connection access while not at all affecting multithreaded access. I have a 100 down fibre to the premises NBN connection (I'm in Australia).
When I run speed tests like the Ookla speed test or the one maintained by my ISP I get fantastic speed in line with my expectations. However actual internet access does not reflect this and when I run speed tests that reportedly test access through a single connection rather than multithreaded I get entirely different results. I'm typically getting less than 1 down or less than 1% of my expected speed. These tests are in line with my experience of internet surfing and test downloading files like driver updates.

These results are the same under each of the following scenarios:
- NBN premises box ethernet cable connected directly to PC,
- NBN premises box to modem, ethernet cable connected to PC,
- NBN premises box to modem, connected on the 2.4ghz Wifi band to PC,
- NBN premises box to modem, connected on the 2.4ghz Wifi band to iPhone,
- NBN premises box to modem, connected on the 5ghz Wifi band to iPhone.
As I mentioned, I've just moved in so this is a fresh setup which has thankfully made testing uncomplicated. There is nothing other than my PC or phone sharing the connection. (I've verified this through checking with my router.) I've tried having my PC off and completely disconnected and results remain consistent from my phone. Similarly have tried just PC, no Phone. I've tried changing the DNS to quad9 and quad8 and this similarly had no effect. I've used a wifi analyzer to find the best channel for each of the wifi bands and changing to these made no difference. I've spoken with two tech support staff from my ISP for a couples of hours yesterday and wasn't able to resolve my issue. We tried resetting my NBN box and factory-resetting my ISP-provided router but these yielded no changes. I've been googling around but have been unable to find resolution even when others have reported a similar issue.
Any input anyone could provide would be very greatly appreciated. Thanks.
